There are two kinds of free text comments: Scheduled and unscheduled. The location of a scheduled free text comment is specified in the schema while you can decide where to place unscheduled free text comments. The scheduled free text comments are created as described in Inserting Sections in the Table of Contents.
Adding an unscheduled free text comment has different effects, depending on what is selected in the Table of Contents at the time of choosing the command. The decision as to which free text comment is inserted depends on which standard has been defined in the schema. The figure below shows a free text comment which has been created for the "Reference" section.
For example, ADatP-3 states a number of rules governing free text sections. One rule is that an Amplification section refers to the previous section only. A Narrative section refers to the previous few sections, and a Remarks section refers to the entire form and can only be inserted at the end of a form. IRIS Forms uses these rules when deciding which section to create.
If the selected node is a single section node, adding a free text comment will cause IRIS Forms to create an Amplification section immediately after the selected section.
If the selected node is a section group, a Narrative section will be created at the end of the section group.
If there is more than one section selected, a Narrative section will be created after the last selected section.
If the selected node is the top node of the form, a Remarks section will be created at the end of the form (In ADatP-3 Change 4 the Remarks section is represented with a ghost node located at the end of the form, and is handled the same way as other none free text sets).
To add a free text comment:
Select the node(s) the free text comment refers to
Select Comment from the toolbar
or
Right-click the mouse
Select Insert Comment from the popup menu
You can use the toolbar as a shortcut to invoke the command.
A new free text section will be inserted after the selected node(s).
