Faros 1.4 Overview -------- Faros sits in the system tray and continuously monitors the NCDXF beacons on five bands. It determines if the signal is a beacon or a QRM, using the Bayesian classification algorithm, and logs only the beacon data. If the beacon signal is detected, the program records the signal-to-noise ratio, QSB index, and propagation delay. Based on the delay, Faros automatically determines if the signal is coming via the short or long path, and highlights long path openings. The measurement of the signal delay requires an accurate knowledge of time. Faros maintains its own UTC clock in the software and does nor rely on the PC clock. It queries time from multiple time servers and uses the Kalman filter to precisely track the current UTC. System Requirements ------------------- OS: currently tested only on WinXP. PC: tested on Pentium 600 MHz - this seems to be the bare minimum.
