Under Linux it will be helpful if you can create traces. For this you'll need the utility 'strace'
Start acarsd with the following commandline:

strace -s 1024 -ff -o acdeb.txt ./acarsd

and send us the acdeb.txt.* results

If you have acarsd installed under Windows, please check that you have the correct version started!

Use
	acarsd95.exe 
for
	Win95, Win98, Win98SE, Win98ME

and 
	acarsd.exe
for
	all other Windows Versions
