At red farmhouse, opposite pole #60, road forks; bear left. Welling sign visible. Entrance to graveyard is on left, 50' beyond pole. Except for the tomb, all graves are marked with marble stones inscribed with names and dates, set flush with turf. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Top HISTORICAL CEMETERY #: NK002 HILL LOT NORTH KINGSTOWN RI south of FORGE RD. at TEL pole # 4 Tax Assessors Map #: Plat #: 3381 Lot #: NOTE: Off south side of Forge Road, about opposite Pojac Point Road. Drive between poles 4 & 5 leads to left of a large house. This is a right-of-way to graveyard. Lot lies several hundred feet from house, over a rise and in a field. It is surrounded by a stand of cedars, pines and other evergreens and is overgrown and uncared for, enclosed by a stone wall. Burial ground contains about twelve fieldstone graves, which Mrs. Lawrence states "marked graves of slaves in the family and children who died at Forge Village. On29 March 1883, when Harris visited, the lot was on the land of Syria H. Mathewson. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Top HISTORICAL CEMETERY #: NK003 WILLIAM REYNOLDS LOT NORTH KINGSTOWN RI Location: 500 ft north of NORTH QUIDNESSETT RD. at TEL pole # 3985 71 burials with 31 inscriptions from 0 to 2 Tax Assessors Map #: Plat #: 3985 Lot #: NOTE: On North Quidnessett Rd opposite pole 3985 on the left side heading east and opposite a small pond. The entrance is marked by stone posts capped in white and joined by a locked gate. The lot is approached by a 500' right of way. Well maintained by the Reynolds Family Association. Harris recorded this yard on 29 March 1883, locating it a "short distance east of the Potowomut Mills onside hill lot walled and yard neglected." Some of the old stones in this graveyard having probably become badly eroded have been replaced with modern granite markers. Footstones may have been removed at this time since none are visible today. A large monument reads: "Reynolds 1660. In memory of William and Elizabeth Reynolds, their ancestors and descendants. Erected by Thomas A. Reynolds, 1904." This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Top HISTORICAL CEMETERY #: NK004 FONES & BROWN LOT NORTH KINGSTOWN RI Location: 150 ft east of POST RD 6 burials with 4 inscriptions from 1811 to 1839 Tax Assessors Map #: Plat #: 558 Lot #: NOTE: Off Post Rd, east side of Railroad track. Enter from Austin Rd. Walk through left side of golf driving range to embankment along RR tracks. Burial ground, perched on bank, is hidden by brush, about 150' from Post Rd. overpass. Partly enclosed by crumbling stone wall. Neglected, overgrown. This yard was recorded by Harris about 1883, located on the land of Fones Austin close to the railroad bridge. This cemetery was restored by Fannin-Lehner of Concord, Mass in 1997. Three broken gravestones were repaired and all stones were reset. Extensive probing was done to locate the John Goddard Brown and the L. H. stones without success. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Top HISTORICAL CEMETERY #: NK005 AUSTIN LOT NORTH KINGSTOWN RI Location: 150 ft east of POST RD, BEHIND GROSSMAN'S NOTE: On Post Road, about 150' in, at rear of north side of Grossman's lumber yard. Enclosed by a stone wall. Lot is clear of brush and trees, in good shape, maintained by Grossman's, in accordance with a family will that the "family cemetery shall be maintained as long as grass grows green, and water flows free." Harris recorded this lot on 2 Aug 1883 on land of Fones Austin, north of his barn, lot well walled and in prime order. NOTE: Take private driveway. 300 yards behind Phillips farmhouse (gain permission) Harris on 1 Aug 1883 noted that this yard was fenced and in good condition on the land of James W. Davis. Statewide Cemeteries Survey of 1978 cites the 1974 survey which states that the remains were removed to Allenton Cemetery, (Elm Grove). Benns &Burgess list its former location as Davisville on the north side of Davisville Rd, John F. Cashman place. This was at one time known as the Allen Reynolds Farm. Was where Oak Tree Drive now is, near Green Meadow Baptist Church. Harris did not visit this yard. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Top HISTORICAL CEMETERY #: NK008 PELEG CARD LOT NORTH KINGSTOWN RI north of NEWCOMB ROAD at TEL pole # 457 NOTE: Location on north side of road, rear pole 457 about 1/2 mile in from Post Rd. Sign visible from Road. Harris visited this lot on 7 Oct 1882,locating it on the land of Samuel Spink, west of his house beside the road, unprotected "considerable overrun with briars and weeds." New survey had been impossible until cemetery was cleaned in 1991. Rows of unmarked fieldstones have now been located, along with original Peleg Card marble stone. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. NOTE: On Namcook Rd, behind the Burger King Restaurant at 1748 Post Road. The lot is surrounded by a stone wall. Free of litter, well tended. Harris recorded this lot on 3 Oct 1882, lying on the land of William G. Madison, beside road, walled in and in good condition. ACROSS TRACKS at TEL pole # 23 Tax Assessors Map #: Plat #: 2739 Lot #: NOTE: Off Old Baptist Rd in front of pole 23, across railroad tracks. Lot is in fair shape, vandalized at some time, many excavations. Stones broken, displaced. Site is 30' beyond tracks in a job of an 8' chain link fence that surrounds Government land at Davisville. Harris documented this yard on 31 Jul 1883 on the east side of the railroad, fenced with iron rails and granite posts. Burgess in 1947 said the lot was in very bad shape. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Harris visited this yard on 27 March 1883, locating it beside the road a short distance north of the Old Baptist Meetinghouse yard Scrabbletown, fair shape, "some neglected." A 150 foot right of way leads to graveyard. lot is walled, divided into two parts by a grassy lane, Lawton on left, Smith on right. Lawton side well maintained, Smith side, vines, brush, small trees have been cut and allowed to fall on stones. Lot is enclosed by a finished stone wall. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Top HISTORICAL CEMETERY #: NK014 SEDGEFIELD RD LOT NORTH KINGSTOWN RI Location: 150 ft 33 SEDGEFIELD ROAD (ACROSS) at TEL pole # 4 17 burials with 0 inscriptions 50 ft x 50 ft in very poor condition; sign ??? NOTE: Off Sedgefield Rd in woods. Enter right rear of pole 4, across from #33 Sedgefield Rd. Faint trail leads across a small stream, westerly up hill to Rolling Rock. Burial ground is 50-75' to the right near large rock outcrop. Sign standing; remains of old wall on two sides. This was called by Harris, 23 July 1882, a graveyard for Negroes. Others have claimed it a slave burial ground for the Smith family whose yard lies nearby. Most likely not an Indian burial ground since Indians usually did not mark their dead with fieldstones. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. NOTE: On Maxwell Drive behind pole 1, and a small shopping block. Lot is overgrown with vines and brush, and coved with debris. The entrance is marked by two granite posts; there is no gate. Several stones broken, some missing from earlier surveys, A stone wall still stands around most of the lot. Harris called this the Pearce family lot on Abner Hart's land when he visited it on 31 Jul 1883. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. NOTE: Cemetery is on a rise behind R.J.'s Restaurant. South part of bank had been bulldozed away. It has been vandalized, and many of the stones are down and broken. Should be watched carefully for further development by neighboring businesses. It is southwest of a white house across from a picnic grove. Take driveway past house, then a mowed path to the lot. The lot is enclosed by a fieldstone wall, with a white picket gate, and is card for by Elmer Hall Palmer, resident of the house and a direct descendant of the Halls. Hall is described this yard "in good order" 24 July 1882. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. NOTE: On Old Baptist Road, near Stony Lane, rear of pole 70. The burial grounds are to the sides and rear of the Historic Six Principle Baptist Church. Harris visited this yard on 8 May 1881. It was also visited by Mrs. Lawrence. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. After passing mill pond on the left, take right along abandoned Wickford Branch R.R. Take left on paved area to top of hill. Graveyard lied at foot of hill to right of ball field. May stones have been shattered by vandals, some still standing. A very poor and unprotected location. Some evidence that pieces of stones have been used to mark bases. This lot lies on what was once part of the Abigail Phenix farm, see lot NK048. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Graveyard lies on right overlooking Belleville Pond, about opposite a large warehouse. At one time plot was enclosed by a granite post and pipe rail fence. These have been broken, all slate stones smashed. Harris visited this yard on 3 July 1880 locating it on the south side of railroad track between it and Belleville north pond. Yard poorly walled showing marks of much neglect. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Lot is in poor condition: animal holes, fallen trees, debris, past vandalism. Many stones toppled and broken, which has happened since 1978. Harris lists this cemetery in Exeter XLV (45) This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Burial plot is located in the center of a large turf farm, "SODCO." At SODCO sign, follow tree lined road just west of Slocum Post Office to company office. Employees will give directions to graveyard. It is enclosed by a granite post and pipe rail fence and is badly inundated with animal burrows. Scattered about the large monument are footstones inscribed with the initials of most of those on the monument. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. NOTE: Off Indian Corner Rd. Take dirt road beside pole 31, follow line of poles to small stream. Go right along a clear turf field. Lot lies to left on a knoll in a clump of brush about 200' in from dirt road. Stones are mostly fallen, footstones scattered form headstones, possibly because of vandals or wandering farm animals. Harris recorded this lot on 28 March 1880,located on the land of the late Thomas C. Watson, a little west of his house. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. At end of road take dirt road to the right. Continue 1200', bear right at pond and cemetery can be found in dense brush on left side of road just beyond the bend. No survey was taken in 1978. In 1991 four graves, marked with fieldstones were seen. This is said to be and Indian burial ground. Burial grounds are several hundred feet behind new horse barn. Well maintained. Harris visited this yard 29 May 1881, located it on Kitts Hill. He called it the "old Hammond Burial yard" northeast of the farmhouse, "splendidly fenced with faced granite wall, laid in cement and graded." This cemetery has been recorded and checked. The land on which these two adjacent lots is located was originally part of Cocumscussoc but is now privately owned. Harris recorded these yards on 1 May 1881. The Updike lot was fenced with granite posts and iron rods, The Congdon lot in prime order, wall doubly faced, both extant today. On the same day he noted a lot on the plain to the north, an extensive burial yard of the colored servants of the families buried in the two other cemeteries. 72 large and 8 small graves with rude stones. When Harris visited this yard on 27 Feb 1880,Oliver Gardner was very proud of his cemetery where he would later be buried joining his wife and daughters. Another cemetery of his ancestors, Harris VI, contained 18 large and 16 smaller graves marked by fieldstones. Mr. Gardner said his great great grandparents were there with members of their families. Harris located it southwest of Gardner's house, the foundations of which can still be found behind Mr. Symond's house. This lot could not be found in 1990. Clump of cedars in field on left marks lot. It is on a mound, some brush, many large animal holes, sign standing. Harris visited here on 5 April 1880, at that time on land of Peleg F. Pierce, west of his house and near wood, an ancient Allen burial yard, unprotected. At that time he was able to count 18 fieldstones, 3 rudely marked. Burgess, in the 1930's, has this note: On a knoll in a meadow, a dozen or more graves, all fieldstones, one of which bears the date 1745. Norman Isham told Burgess this place was the home of an Allen, who settled here after a quarrel at the homestead. Although he saw no marks in it, Walter's daughter showed him what she said was another graveyard a few feet north of the first. It was probably for slaves. 1990: unable to do adequate survey due to animal dens. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. NOTE: On Paula Drive in rear of #31. It is in front of pole #3. It lies on the side of a slope; remains of a wire fence that once enclosed it present. It is possible that this ancient Reynolds lot which contains only fieldstone graves sunken deeply into the earth could be that of the James Reynolds family. James Reynolds, son of James and Deborah Reynolds, and grandson of William Reynolds (see NK003) was born in 1650. He married Mary, daughter of James Greene, and settled at Sand Hill. His second wife was Joanna... The1978 survey found 11 fieldstone markers, three with footstones. There was also a granite base without headstone. In 1990, a number of fieldstone graves were present, but no granite base. At pole 23 take driveway immediately to right, #288 Fletcher Road. Graveyard is about 1/2 mile across fields behind house in a patch of woods. Ask property owner for directions and permission to view. Lot is in poor condition; old granite posts are toppled, fence vanished. A stone wall remains on the east. Trees have toppled onto stones, bushes and forest litter have hidden others. Mrs. Lawrence notes that this yard had been maintained in immaculate condition until the 1938 hurricane devastated it. Harris also commented on its excellent repair. (Enter from Rte. 2; Exeter Rd. access blocked.) Triangular lot lies on left in front of a barn roofed duplex house. It is south of pole 8, but before Vista Cir. This lot contains no inscribed stones, but town records indicate that this is a very old Arnold family graveyard, that of the Edmund Arnold farm which lay partly in Exeter and partly in North Kingstown, not in present deed or plat map. After passing a second house, lot lies in field to the left opposite six foot stump of a utility pole and is completely overrun with long grass. No enclosure, no sign of vandalism. Harris remarked on survey, 20 Feb 1880 that he had counted 80 graves, 20 of which he took to be children marked by rude stones only. We were only able to locate a few old stones. Arnold placed this lot "in the field of the old home of Benoni(3) & James(2) Sweet. On modern maps it was near the northeast corner of Newcomb and Post Roads. The Fones house was nearby on the west side of Post Rd, near Namcook and Devils Foot Roads but was demolished in the first half of the 20th century. See also NK004. Harris, who recorded this yard probably in March 1880 on land of Sanford Spink, adds, this note " A grave on the north side of this lot, rude stone with rude tablet being that of George Sherman whose parents after his death removed to the west. Lot is about 150' southeast of house in a grove of mature evergreens. It is enclosed by a massive dressed stone wall, with an iron gate set between two granite posts. Cared for. The house and farm were owned by Sylvester R. Gardiner and later by J. S. Arnold during the last half of the nineteenth century. It was a dairy farm and at onetime encompassed 125 acres. NOTE: On Scrabbletown Road, directly behind a restaurant, opposite pole 5.Entrace up an embankment, is marked by two granite posts, one marked"1820". This is a large lot, surrounded by a stone wall. It is unkempt, littered, covered with brush and vines. Vandalized. Notes from Harris: "On land belonging to the heirs of the late Isaac Hall, beside public road a short distance northeast of his house is an ancient burial ground of the Brown family. From notes we learn. In this lot is buried Beriah Brown, the first settler of this tract. His grave is in the southwest corner, and is a square tomb raised and covered with flat stones with no inscription. His descendents are buried in a row parallel [sic] with his running north. He came from England and settled here the latter part of the 17th century. He perfected his title May 27, 1709, after R.I. and Conn. had settled their dispute in regard to territory. Was born in England about 1640, emigrated here about 1670, died about the time of the great snowstorm of Feb..20,1717." Harris appears to have gained access to a family bible or some other unknown source, as he identifies several unmarked fieldstone. This cemetery has been recorded and checked.Top HISTORICAL CEMETERY #: NK097 STUKELY BROWN NORTH KINGSTOWN RI Location: 200 ft north of TEN ROD RD 18 burials with 11 inscriptions NOTE: Off north side of Ten Rod Rd up a private road about 3/10 mi. west of Rte.4 interchange, between a golf course and the new Masonic Lodge. Lot is about 200 feet in from Ten Rod Rd, behind a stone wall on the right. Formerly walled on four sides; heavy equipment has broken entrance gate and western part of wall. Lot recently cleared of vegetation. Stones are toppled and broken from years of neglect. Harris called this an old Lawton burial ground on the land of Joseph H. Brown. When surveyed on 25 March1880, lot was walled and faced in good condition. Burials in north end of lot may have once existed, but are now gone. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Follow lane at east of house for about 500' noting stone wall on right. Break in wall is the old, now impassible way to lot. Just beyond at the top of step slope is a large rock out-crop, said to have been an Indian signal point, will help in locating the yard to the right. This ancient farm with a 1732 dwelling was owned by Mary Arnold in the 19th century. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Off Hatchery Road, parallel to railroad, 400' off west side, and about 1400' south of old crossing on High Street. Said to be near ruins of the old Arnold house and the Fish Hatchery. Land now belongs to Dry Bridge Sand and Gravel Co. The lot has been seen as recently as 1984, but present conditions of heavy brush have prevented locating it in 1990. The late Mr. Bapties said he had counted 8 to 10 fieldstone graves. Burial lot was that of the Samuel Arnold family. and the farm in 1909 was known as the J. W. Arnold farm. Harris probably visited in1883, and listed as follows: On land of Mr. Austin, a short distance east of his house in open lot and unprotected a burial yard of the Austin family all marked with rude stones. In Dec 1990, two fieldstones were located, one faintly marked R. A. lying on the ground. The other was uprooted. This cemetery has been recorded and checked.Top HISTORICAL CEMETERY #: NK104 AYRAULT CEMETERY NORTH KINGSTOWN RI OFF SALISBURY RD, CEDAR POINT 27 burials with 5 inscriptions NOTE: This lot contained at one time the oldest inscribed headstone in North Kingstown. Harris placed it on the land of the Hamilton Web Company. When Burgess visited in 1936, he counted 19 fieldstone graves on one of which he discerned 1691, and the letters AR. He said Norman Isham had been told by James Arnold that Ed Early b. 1856 had seen a flat engraved stone when he was a boy. It was later broken up by village boys. Owners say that today only fieldstones remain. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Yard lies in woods about 200 feet behind barn on property at 376 Tower Hill Rd. Unkempt, filled with briers, fallen trees and brush. Harris came to this lot on 28 Feb 1880, calling it the "Old Boone Yard" on the land of Dr. Sunderland, east of the Catholic Church. George Harris recorded this lot 28 Feb 1880: Old Boone burial yard Wickford On land of Dr. Sunderland east of the Catholic church, lot unprotected marked by rude stones we counted 16 large and 9 small graves. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Enter Autumn Dr., right on Laurel Ridge La., to Princess Pine Ct. Lot is on a knoll, cor., of Princess Pine, about across form Carrie La. It is tree and brush covered, no enclosure. Only one inscribed stone. Harris visited this lot on 25March 1880 then on the land of Pardon Arnold, close to his barn and opposite the house of Mr. Peter Phillips. The yard contained among the rude marked graves those of Phenix and Walker Brown. He found a total of 11large and 10 small unmarked graves in addition to the stone of Stephen Brown and his son. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Top HISTORICAL CEMETERY #: NK107 BURDICK FARM GRAVEYARDS NORTH KINGSTOWN RI east of OLD BAPTIST ROAD at TEL pole # 36 NOTE: On Old Baptist Rd., about 9/10 mi., south of Devil's Foot Rd., on the old Burdick Farm, east of railroad. Pass beneath rail line via narrow tunnel opposite pole 36. Proceed to farmhouse. One lot is several hundred feet SE of house, the other hundred about 200' SW. These lots difficult to find. All are fieldstones, some according to Harris were marked with initials and dates. Two were marked with full names. With the help of the present owner, many fieldstones graves were found, but only one with markings. All graves face east. Harris enumerated these the SE graveyard on 31 July 1883, most with initials. SW lot is nearer to house, lying on an eastward on an eastward facing slope: Harris counted 17 graves in four lines facing east. Most can be seen today. Owner of the farm said that when he came in 1955, there had been a veteran's flag there. Burgess found 10 graves. Burgess said this suggested this might be a Tourgee Lot. SW lot about 20' south of 2nd lot. Harris and Burgess found six fieldstone graves. About four found in 1991. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Path well marked by signs "Indian Burial Ground." Sit roughly enclosed by timber fence, clear of brush, but trees intrude. On 15 March 1880 Harris viewed this lot and described it thus: "In bend of river just north of Hammond's Mill, west side lot overgrown with oak [?] is a cemetery of the Burlingame family. Lot unprotected graves marked with rude stones only. We counted 7 large and 3 small graves and think the plow has destroyed others. These are among the earliest settlers of Kingstown." Burgess in the 1930's : "Only fieldstones, but Mr. Vose told me it was a Burlingame Lot." In January 1990, 10 fieldstone graves found. He described it "on land of James Burlingame, south of his house (foundation noted in 1991) on knoll is burial yard of the former owner of this property fenced with pickets in good order." At that time he listed two graves with rude stones at the foot of Abbie's grave: William Hammond and his daughter. Huldah lay at the foot of these, and beside this another child of the same parents. Lot overlooks Elm Grove cemetery to south. Consists of 25-30 fieldstone graves with no discernable markings. Lot is not enclosed. Burial area seems to be about 30' x 50' and descends southward down hill almost to wall of Elm Grove. This is probably an early Eldred graveyard. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Top HISTORICAL CEMETERY #: NK114 GARDINER NORTH KINGSTOWN RI DAHLIA DR NOTE: Off Sand Hill Rd in the back of 41 & 55 Dahlia Dr. No trace of this lot remains. Land has been graded and sodded. Residents were told of its existence. A right of way to the plot can still be faintly discerned. Information from Burgess, who stated in the 1930's that "the sand has been dug away completely around it, leaving a steep crowned sand hill which the weather will eventually destroy." This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Enter along row of fir trees, east side of property, climb wall, follow wall at left running north. Lot is on west side of wall 400' from road, enclosed by dressed and capped stone walls. Brushy, abandoned, some stones displaced. Harris visited this lot 25 April 1880. Burgess noted that there appeared to be a slave burial yard outside the wall to the east. 1790 census give David these slaves. Unable to locate this additional cemetery in 1990 due to heavy brush. Burgess called it Hazeldeane Farm. Burgess says this was known in 1938 as the Hazard Carson House. It was built in 1775 by Jonathan Hazard, torn down in 1940. Nameless graves are probably Hazards. Harris on his visit 15 March 1880 placed it on the land of Nathan Hazard, said it was walled and overrun with weeds and brier. Unable to survey in 1990, permission denied by owner. Enter land across from pole 650 43.Continue along land which curves to left to house. There are no grave markers, only a 20' x 20' area delineated by stones. An old historical cemetery marker now unreadable is lying on the ground. This is thought to be an Indian burial site, perhaps of a family, according to a spokesman of the Narragansett Indian Tribe. Top HISTORICAL CEMETERY #: NK124 JACOY LOT NORTH KINGSTOWN RI south of STONY LANE 21 burials with 3 inscriptions NOTE: According to a long time resident who lives nearby, this graveyard was buried under earth about 1917. It lies about 40 feet south of Stony Lane in the center of a soccer field. Harris described it on 24 July 1882, as lying on the land of Mr. Rathbun north of his house. Harris notes what would seem to be two other burial lots, although his does not number them as separate yards. Presumably their fate was similar to the Jacoy lot. "Outside yard west end, 9 graves all with rude stones." "North of here a space 5 graves which we are told were blacks names to us unknown." (Research indicates that this was the burial ground of a black family named Brown living in the area.) This cemetery has been recorded and checked. Mary Huling, 1934: "South of East Greenwich pumping station, between the old and new road, on a high bank, just as you are toward the railroad bridge. Quite a number of graves with rude, unmarked stones and one blue slate stone... It is thought to be the Hunt burial ground." This lot is in poor condition. Large trees have fallen, obscuring many stones, and breaking the monument into several pieces. Brush and vines are rampant. Lot is surrounded by a well-made capped stones wall. Mr. Reynolds confirmed that the large Reynolds monument is there, broken under a large tree. The monument is inscribed on west side: "This monument is executed incompliance with the will of Mary G. Thomas, dau. of Eldredge and Esther G. C. Reynolds, A.D. 1881." Lot is not enclosed though an old stone wall runs along north side. No vandalism but much of the lot is invaded by trees, vines & brush. James Sherman told Harris in 1880 that his grandfather and grandmother Silas & Lydia are her marked by fieldstones S.S. & L. S., that his great grandparents Eber & Margaret and his great great grandparents William and Abby are all buried here. William was son of first settler Eber who is mentioned in 1661 as a witness to a deed concerning the Pettaquamscutt Purchase. James Sherman and his wife are buried in lot NK087 on the east side of Shermantown Rd. When Harris visited here 18 March 1880, it was on the land of Miss Susan Sherman northwest of her house. He listed 30 large and 10 small graves. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. The headstones have no inscriptions. It is no doubt, here that William 1 and his family are buried. The most northeastern grave is that of the last person buried, Lucy Tanner Dawley. Follow dirt road behind pole 7, branch to right. Lot lies about 600' from Oak Hill Pond. There are no marked stones in this yard, only about 20 fieldstone graves. George Gardiner in his book Lafayette mentions on pg232, that George T. Cranston's great grandfather, a Revolutionary War soldier, was buried at Oak Hill. It is possible that this could be any early Cranston lot since the family owned a farm near Kettle Hole Pond farther south. This cemetery has been recorded and checked. A split rail fence was put around this lot in 1992 to keep out the farm animals and most stones were set back up. In 1993 Mary Reynolds and 3 Very children's stones were found by probing and reset. Mary's stone was repaired with CP Bond epoxy. On knoll a few rods south west from the above yard (NK068) on opposite side of road in open lot and unprotected is a burial yard containing 10 graves. We are told were slaves of the Willett and Carpenter families. Whether there were more graves we know not though the plow has run forfully close. These were slaves of the Willett and Carpenter families. They were removed from their former lot off Carroll Rd. When several members of the Carpenter family were also removed to Riverside.
